Ghost Orchid Snuff Bottle II is based on one of Hannah Lim’s recent sculptural works, The Ghost Orchid. The print translates the three-dimensional object into a layered, image-based composition, extending the formal and technical language central to her practice.
A photographic image of the snuff bottle is collaged against a richly coloured, stippled and ornamental ground. The background draws from the shapes and technical schematics used in the development of Lim’s larger sculptures, referencing the digital and sculptural processes that underpin their construction. In doing so, the print reveals the structural logic often concealed within the finished ceramic object.
The final composition was developed in Adobe Illustrator — the same software Lim uses to design many of her sculptural works — reinforcing the continuity between digital modelling and physical fabrication in her practice. The image was then translated into four Risograph colour layers: pink, teal, yellow and sunflower. As these layers interact during printing, they produce subtle tonal shifts and unexpected overlaps, echoing the chromatic intensity and surface play of her ceramic forms.
Produced in a strictly limited edition of 100, Ghost Orchid Snuff Bottle II offers a focused encounter with Lim’s ongoing investigation into ornament, authorship and the circulation of form across mediums.
