In her two prints, Scattered Objects and Arranged Objects, artist May Hands turns her attention to fragments gathered from the street — discarded packaging, wrapping and organic remnants retrieved from the urban environment.

By isolating and re-presenting these materials, Hands shifts their status. What is ordinarily overlooked becomes formally charged. Plastic, fibre and natural matter are treated not as waste but as surface, colour and structure: elements capable of aesthetic weight.

The two works stage a subtle contrast between dispersion and composition. In one, objects retain a sense of provisional scatter; in the other, they are deliberately arranged, testing the boundary between accident and intention. This oscillation reflects May Hands’ wider practice, which responds directly to her surroundings while questioning cycles of consumption and renewal.

Through the act of translation into print, these fragments are stabilised yet remain contingent — traces of a material world shaped by both ecological systems and consumer culture.
