YULIA LEBEDEVA

Artist Profile

Yulia Lebedeva is a photographer and moving-image artist whose work navigates intimacy, representation and visual identity in the contemporary moment. Working across still and moving formats, she constructs staged environments where gesture, colour and composition intensify the emotional choreography of human interaction.

Yulia Lebedeva’s photographic practice blends formal playfulness with cultural critique. Her bold, saturated imagery, often anchored by a strong female presence, engages with the visual language of advertising, film and social media. Through subtle irony and symbolic layering, her work examines how desire and identity are shaped, displayed and mediated in an image-saturated world.

Yulia Lebedeva completed a BA in Arts, Film and TV at University of the Arts London (2011) and an MFA in Photography, Video and Sculpture at The Rodchenko School of Photography and Multimedia, Moscow (2015). Her photography has been featured in significant institutional contexts, most notably with mind(e)scape at the Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow, presented as part of the XI Moscow International Biennale Fashion and Style in Photography-2019.

Across still and moving image, Yulia Lebedeva continues to explore how contemporary image culture constructs performance, desire and self-presentation, inviting viewers to reconsider the rituals of looking and being seen.
